A co-production between Binaural Nodar and the Municipality of Vouzela
Composer and pianist Rui Lima will return to Vouzela following his first artist residency in 2023. As a result of this first artistic immersion in the territory, entitled “re-interiorization of landscapes”, the artist will now prepare the electroacoustic composition “the center of the asymptote”, which combines the composition of sound recordings, voice and improvised piano on written themes.
The residency will allow the artist to create the format and conduct the concert performance; condense the duration of the work; create the motifs of the harmonic instrument – piano – integrated into the electroacoustic composition, as well as practicing and testing the created format.
Rui Lima was born in Lourosa, Aveiro. He graduated in Biology from the University of Aveiro in 2017 with an integrated internship in ecotoxicology, studying the effects of herbicides and salinity on zooplankton species in estuarine waters.
Alongside his degree, he studied composition. Since 2016, some of his original compositions have been performed sporadically, experimenting with various music and theater groups. In 2021 he obtained a Master’s degree in Music from the UA, developing his composition technique and creating a work linked to other areas, inspired by the landscapes of the moons of the solar system. In 2022 he published his first work, The Cliff, inspired by coastal geological strata; he was a resident artist through the Self-Mistake project. He has already participated in ten Erasmus+ projects, including training courses (TC), exchanges and volunteering. At the same time, he is a freelance musician in Devon (England).
