FRESH WATER, SALT WATER
Artist residency
Rincón de Paiva (Cerro Largo, Uruguay)
September 28-30, 2023

With Ana Rodríguez (in dialog with Luís Costa, in Reriz, Castro Daire)

A co-production by Binaural Nodar and Amaneï Salina, with the support of the Municipality of Castro Daire, Castro Daire Municipal Library and Mapa sonoro de Uruguay.

From September 28th to 30th, one of the components of the “Fresh water, salt water” cycle of artistic residencies took place in the small town of Rincón de Paiva (Cerro Largo, Uruguay), a sound and oral investigation in a town with a place name that links it to the Paiva River in Portugal. where another part of this collaborative artist residency took place.

To be from Rincón de Paiva is to be from the border, to fetch water from a cachimba, to organize horse races, to own or buy in a warehouse, to cross to Brazil by boat, to work on either bank of the Yaguarón (or Jaguarão, in Portuguese) river, it’s being a customs officer looking for contraband, it’s living near the river and the animals, it’s losing everything and starting again, it’s getting transportation when it rains a lot, it’s walking barefoot and, as Ana Rodríguez experienced, it’s welcoming with joy those who have just arrived.

Ana Rodríguez and Binaural Nodar would like to thank the following people for the opportunity to travel through time and space: Susana Botello, Pablo Díaz, Víctor de Brum, Siegler Rodríguez, Antonio Cruz, Janis Alaniz, Romário Cruz, Jesús Manuel Costa, Flor de Lis Sosa Caétano, Aníbal Araújo, Iriberto Mauro Ramos, Ivanosca Brun, Alaides de Brum and Carol Fontes.

A big thank you to Vittoria Assembri and Luís Costa, companions of the artist residency “Fresh water, salt water”.

Binaural Nodar is a cultural organization supported by the Portuguese Government – Cultura | Direção-Geral das Arts.
