THE TIME OF THINGS
Multimedia exhibition
Lafões Cult Lab (Vouzela, Portugal)
24 March – 14 April 2023

A project by Binaural Nodar in collaboration with the Senior University of Vouzela (Municipality of Vouzela)

All people are surrounded by objects with affective value, regardless of their economic, social or educational status. Some of these objects may have been passed down through generations, others were work tools or everyday use, and others are precious talismans, often the result of fortuitous encounters. Objects have a soul and “speak” of their guardians, so that, listening to the story of each of these objects, we better understand how they can transmit an “aura” of protection, a welcoming memory or a symbol of meaning, of both individual and social life. In a certain sense, loving and caring for an object means loving life itself, what it has given and may still give in the future.

“The Time of Things” is a community-based project involving sound and photographic research, developed with a specific methodology and related to stories linked to a diversity of personal objects that are life companions of the participating groups, favoring those who lack processes of valuing their personal history and, consequently, their individual and group self-esteem.

The second edition of “The Time of Things”, a project by Binaural Nodar in collaboration with the Senior University of Vouzela of the Municipality of Vouzela, comprised a set of community meetings of sharing and recording, with the final result being a multimedia exhibition that will open on March 24th.

From photographs that perpetuate personal memories, to the legacy that the railway left in the region, not forgetting childhood memories and learning in a family, social, cultural and artistic context, the project includes many testimonies that refer to an individual and, simultaneously, collective universe.
