Description:
In an ode to rural life and the primitive values of sowing and tending in order to see things born and grow, comes an original show created by Rui Tavares and Érica Dias. A piece of music and dance that seeks to draw a parallel with an entire philosophy of life, faced with an increasingly less human world in which nurturing in order to reap, whatever it may be, has fallen out of fashion.
In a world where everything is a click away, including ourselves, a reversal of this journey is foreseen to come very soon, a human need to be human, to touch, to get one’s hands dirty, to feel and live firsthand every stage and experience of life.
As such, we will witness a reversal of the rural exodus that virtually emptied a large part of our country. In a general awareness that quality of life lies in the values of the land and in the power of productive independence, the population will tend to return home. Faced with abandoned land on the verge of barrenness, despair will arise, but it will merely precede the sweat, struggle and reconstructive work of a people who never give up.
The piece seeks to create associations with the Earth at various levels. The unconventional or barely conventional instruments live in harmony with the more traditional ones. The movements created will reflect the human essence in passages that will fly from the rough and primitive to the soft and ethereal, demonstrating the volatility of human feeling. And as a backdrop we will see emblematic locations of the Lafões region.
The Jovens Expressões de Lafões Award was established under the tripartite support agreement between the Directorate-General for the Arts, Binaural/Nodar and the three Lafões municipalities, to regularly support innovative artistic projects by young artists resident in any of the Lafões municipalities in diverse artistic fields, such as theatre, dance, music and/or their articulation with the visual arts (photography, video, sculpture, etc.) and with themes associated with the various territorial realities that make up the Lafões region.
The jury considered the creation “Memories of a Near Future” by Rui Tavares and Érica Dias (both residents of Oliveira de Frades) to be the strongest of the six applications received, fitting perfectly with the purposes of the Jovens Expressões de Lafões award, as it revealed enormous conceptual maturity and a well-achieved articulation between artistic fields (in this case between experimental music and contemporary dance).
