Binaural Nodar will be present on 27 October at BioFÓRUM – Sustainable Forest Management, taking place at the Junta de Freguesia da Branca, Municipality of Albergaria-a-Velha.
The BIOForum is dedicated to the urgent and timely subject of sustainable forest management and the economic, tourism and cultural diversification opportunities it holds.
Luis Gomes da Costa will give a talk entitled “The Sound Forest”, presenting excerpts from various sound projects set in a forest context, which has the following summary:

The sound forest. The Portuguese forest is today the setting for multiple tensions arising from the social changes of recent decades, which have led to the gradual questioning of the old worldview of the forest as part of the rural world. It is often difficult to express the discomforts and perplexities that the forest holds, which is why the author, through the concept of the “sound forest”, has been developing solitary or shared exercises (together with artistic, educational and tourism communities) of attentive listening and subsequent sound recording of specific geographic points in the forests of the municipalities of Arouca, Oliveira de Frades, Vouzela, São Pedro do Sul and Viseu. The concept of the sound forest may perhaps help to dispel some scientific and economic myths in the discourse on the forest, promoting parallel senses of silent individuality (influenced by the writings of Henry David Thoreau), of responsibility, of aesthetic appreciation and of the re-valuation of the ancestral, umbilical relationship between rural communities and forests.
