It was with great pleasure that Binaural Nodar co-organized, together with the Centro de Promoção Social, the sixth edition of SIBTUR – International Symposium on Good Practices in Tourism, which took place on the 19th of April in Carvalhais, Viseu, Portugal, Municipality of São Pedro do Sul, as a forum for debate on the role of cultural practices and heritage in boosting more authentic tourism experiences.
Binaural/Nodar’s role at SIBTUR was also linked to the fact that, in this European Year of Cultural Heritage, the association is the lead partner of a Creative Europe project, Réseau Tramontana, and in that context Silvia Pallini from the project partner entity Associazione LEM-Italia was invited. On the other hand, the cross-border relationship with Galicia was fostered, through the presence of Vidal Martínez-Sierra López of the Terras de Miranda Rural Development Group.
Likewise, we cannot forget the presence of highly relevant Portuguese speakers, who brought certainly innovative and resilient perspectives on how to escape the common places of what quality heritage tourism means. In this regard, we highlight the contributions of Pedro Sobral de Carvalho (EON, Indústrias Criativas, Lda), Fátima Eusébio (Department of Heritage Assets of the Diocese of Viseu), Luís Coito (Turismo de Portugal), Cristina Barroco (Tourism Course of the Instituto Politécnico de Viseu) and João Pedro Mouro (councillor of the Municipality of São Pedro do Sul).
Lastly, we leave an album with images of the symposium and the presentation of the LabTur project at the Museu Rural de Carvalhais, an audiovisual intervention developed jointly by Binaural Nodar and the 2nd year students of the Tourism Course at the Escola Profissional de Carvalhais – SPS under the guidance of its director Ana Margarida Bandeira Azevedo.
