Artistic Residency “HOMO ET BESTIA – Sound expressions of the human-animal bond in a rural context”

Binaural Nodar announces the projects selected for its next international artistic residency, taking place between July 8 and 20 in the Serra do Caramulo, in partnership with the Oliveira de Frades Municipality.

The selected projects are by Brazilian sound artist Bel Lae and by the duo of sound/media artists Diana Policarpo (Portugal) and Judith Sönnicken (Germany).

The artistic residency is titled “HOMO ET BESTIA – Sound expressions of the human-animal bond in a rural context” and will take as its theme the ancestral importance of animals (wild, farmed, and companion animals) in the Portuguese region of Lafões — a region in constant evolution and debate, particularly through the incorporation of recent trends related to animal rights, the tension between organic and industrial farming, and, more broadly, the slow decline of “pure” rural contexts, where many traditional practices are being replaced or abandoned, generating a wide range of memories and contrasts with contemporary approaches to animals.
