WELCOME, MAILE COLBERT!
Binaural Nodar is pleased to announce that artist and researcher Maile Colbert has just been appointed director. She has been a regular collaborator on various projects of the association since 2007, particularly in the areas of curating artist residencies in digital archives, engaging with the academic community, and internationalizing Binaural Nodar’s activities.
Maile Colbert is an intermedia artist, researcher, and educator, with a focus on sound and media. She was a doctoral research fellow in Art Studies, specializing in sound studies, film sound design, and its relationship to the ecology of the soundscape at the University of Lisbon, Faculty of Social and Human Sciences. Her practice-based research project, titled “Wayback Sound Machine: Sound Through Time, Space, and Place,” explores what we can learn by listening to the past.
She is a visiting assistant professor of Multimedia at the School of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon and a researcher in the Art and Technology working group at CineLab, an IFILNOVA research laboratory dedicated to cinema and philosophy, where she works on a project themed “Artificial Atmospheres, AI, Art, and Archives.” She has been a collaborator with the artistic organization Binaural Nodar since 2007, where she curates creative projects and digital archives. She is also an editor and author for the magazine Sonic Field, and has exhibited, screened, and performed in numerous countries across four continents.
We are certain that this appointment will strengthen the Binaural Nodar project as it moves toward the future, following 22 years of the association’s activity.
Finally, we would like to express our gratitude to the founding members and directors, Luís Gomes da Costa and Rui Gomes da Costa, for the work of the entire Binaural Nodar team in recent years:
Liliana Silva, Nely Ferreira, Ana Margarida Ferreira, and Andreia Mota!
