THE TIME OF THINGS
A community-based sound and visual project
January, 18th to February, 24th 2023

A project by Binaural Nodar in collaboration with the Senior University of Vouzela (Municipality of Vouzela)

All people are surrounded by objects with affective value, regardless of their economic, social or educational status. Some of these objects may have been passed down through generations, others were work tools or everyday use, and others are precious talismans, often the result of fortuitous encounters. Objects have a soul and “speak” of their guardians, so that, listening to the story of each of these objects, we better understand how they can transmit an “aura” of protection, a welcoming memory or a symbol of meaning, of both individual and social life. In a certain sense, loving and caring for an object means loving life itself, what it has given and may still give in the future.

“The Time of Things” is a community-based project involving sound and photographic research, developed with a specific methodology and related to stories linked to a diversity of personal objects that are life companions of the participating groups, favoring those who lack processes of valuing their personal history and, consequently, their individual and group self-esteem.

The second edition of “The Time of Things” will take place in collaboration with the Senior University of Vouzela and will comprise a set of community meetings including sound recordings and photography, with the final result being a mixed-media exhibition, to be announced in due course.
