LANDSCAPES, VOICES AND FLAVOURS
OF THE UKRAINIAN COMMUNITY IN VISEU
An ethnographic, gastronomic and artistic project
Viseu (Portugal)
April – October 2026
A co-production by the Association of Ukrainians in Viseu and Binaural Nodar, with the support of Viseu Municipal Council, through Casa da Ribeira and the Várzea de Calde Linen Museum, and co-funded by the Creative Europe programme, as part of the Rede Tramontana project.
The ethnographic, gastronomic and artistic project “Landscapes, voices and flavours of the Ukrainian Community in Viseu” aims to give a voice to the stories of the Ukrainian community living in Viseu, exploring the landscapes of their origins in different regions of Ukraine and how these shaped the memories and experiences of its members. Through a series of multi-sensory ethnographic interviews, it will be possible to learn about family life, sounds, colours, traditional cuisine and the transformations that accompanied the move to Portugal, notably the incorporation of elements of Portuguese cuisine, perhaps creating new eating habits.
Subsequently, two gastronomic events will be held, on dates to be announced, during which it will be possible to learn about the preparation methods and sample some of the most iconic dishes from different parts of Ukraine. Finally, a collective exhibition will be held, with contributions from artists and members of the Association of Ukrainians in Viseu and Binaural Nodar, which will open in the last quarter of 2026.
Binaural Nodar is a cultural organization supported by the Portuguese Republic – Culture, Youth, and Sports | Directorate-General for the Arts.
