LANDSCAPE AND REPRESENTATION: ECHOES OF MEMORY AND FUTURE MEMORIES
In-person seminar

September 30th to October 2nd | 08:30 am to 06:30 pm
Jorge Semprún Auditorium, Ministry of Culture
Calle San Marcos, 40
Madrid (Spain)

The coordinator of Binaural Nodar, Luís Costa, will present a scientific article at the seminar “Landscape and Representation: Echoes of Memory and Future Memories,” to be held in Madrid from September 30th to October 2nd.

The paper, co-written with Susana Duarte, director of the Master’s Degree in Arts of Sound and Image at ESAD Caldas da Rainha, proposes the concept of relational landscapes in artistic research, integrating aspects of Binaural Nodar’s methodological approach, as well as audiovisual works that address the idea of a third place, based on the aesthetic relationship established between specific places, such as ‘The Third River: An imaginary journey between distant waters’, produced by Luis Costa in Genoa, with the collaboration of Studio Florida and the Amici di Pontecarrega association.

The seminar, under the scientific direction of David Escudero from the Polytechnic University of Madrid and David Rejano Peña from the Municipality of Madrid, proposes a critical review of the role of representation in the emotional connection between communities and their landscapes. Among the topics to be addressed are the specific contribution of photography and cinematography to the construction of imaginaries, the particularities of visual narratives over time, and the creation, transformation, and post-occupation of landscapes linked to their presence in art forms. The aim is to understand landscapes by emphasizing the hybridization between their territorial condition and the layers that aesthetics add to their physical dimension, with the goal of improving conservation and safeguarding processes within the scope of the National Cultural Landscape Plan.

The seminar is aimed at professionals, academics, technicians, specialists, cultural managers, and students in their final years or postgraduate studies who are interested in landscape and cultural heritage conservation, from any of the disciplines related to the theme: architecture, engineering, communication, education, archaeology, restoration, museology, environment, documentation, tourism, geography, history, or art.
