The CD “Cancioneiro do Linho e da Vida Rural de Várzea de Calde” by the Várzea de Calde Ethnographic Group, produced by Binaural Nodar in partnership with the Municipality of Viseu as part of a long ethnographic investigation, is an example of valuing traditions in a specific community, doing so in a unique way, either by the exemplary demonstration of a songbook specifically linked to one of the most emblematic activities in the village, the sowing and processing of linen fiber to the loom, or by the panoply of rural songs that reflect modes of holistic articulation between landscape, work and social relations in Portuguese rural areas.

The recording of the songs included on the CD was made in the everyday landscape of the village, reflecting its deep connection to the linen cycle and, more generally, to the economic, social and religious relations that are ancestrally established in the rural contexts of the Viseu region.

The recording and publication of this CD was co-financed by both the Municipality of Viseu and by the Creative Europe Programme of the European Union (Tramontana Network).
