\u201cThirty-six variations with three rural stories\u201d is a virtual exhibition composed of a series of thirty-six photographic compositions and sound pieces that is a direct result from a set of workshops held last March 2020 with the educational community of the municipality of Castro Daire, within the scope of the School Cultural Project of the Castro Daire School Group and the National Plan for the Arts, an initiative by the Government of Portugal to promote artistic creation among Portuguese schools, through partnerships with artists, cultural entities, municipalities and others territorial entities.<\/p>\n

The workshops were attended by more than five hundred students from the municipality of Castro Daire and in them three rural matters were worked both in visual and sound terms, corresponding to forms of handicrafts closely linked to the local heritage: trees and shrubs \/ basketry, clay \/ black clay pottery and wool \/ thick wool garments. The exhibition is a contemporary experience which can be enjoyed in the form of a virtual and interactive route that includes:<\/p>\n

a) thirty-six photographic compositions on a black background, corresponding to variations in terms of the spatial arrangement of the various rural matters, all proposed by the participating students.<\/p>\n

b) thirty-six sound pieces that will be associated with each image and that include voices and sounds captured by students during the workshops, related to the way young people interpreted the transformation of materials from the local landscape into pieces of handicraft with practical use and aesthetic value.<\/p>\n

A sincere thanks goes to the team of the National Plan of the Arts, to the Municipality of Castro Daire and to the Direction of the School Group of Castro Daire and its educational community, whose teachers and students contributed decisively to the final result of the project.<\/p>\n
