The piece was part of Divina Sonus Ruris, a sound and media art program dedicated to interactions between sound and religion that took place throughout 2013, and is a reflection based on the ancestral presence of beggars during religious processions in the Gralheira Mountain Range (S\u00e3o Pedro do Sul, Portugal).<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Beggar\u2019s Walking Stick\u201d celebrates one full year that Binaural\/Nodar dedicated to the creative interaction with religious subjects and entities, aimed at the promotion of a sincere dialogue with the local catholic church hierarchy and at the recognition of the importance of religion in the lifes of rural communities where Binaural\/Nodar develops its activities.<\/p>\n<p>The beggar\u2019s walking stick<\/p>\n<p>My father told me<br \/>\nthat by the 40s of the last century<br \/>\nbeggars would roam<br \/>\nto all religious gatherings happening<br \/>\nin the Gralheira Mountains,<br \/>\nsuch as the pilgrimage to Mount St. Macarius<br \/>\non the last weekend of July.<\/p>\n<p>From the middle of the week already,<br \/>\nbeggars were heading to the pilgrimage site.<\/p>\n<p>They were going begging from village to village<br \/>\nand, on Saturday night or on Sunday morning at the latest,<br \/>\nthe whole legion of beggars would form an endless queue<br \/>\nOutside the chapels at the top of the mountain.<\/p>\n<p>With their walking sticks,<br \/>\ntattered clothes<br \/>\nand shabby sandals.<br \/>\ntaking advantage of the faith involvement<br \/>\nwhich breathed on the occasion.<\/p>\n<p>Beggars.<br \/>\nThese old beggars<br \/>\nPoor but gentle<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes I wish we could be more beggars and less masters<br \/>\nReturning to everyday necessity<br \/>\nTo the absolute freedom of choosing the path to walk.<\/p>\n<p>Humility, poverty and truth,<br \/>\nas foundations of a revolution that will never happen.<\/p>\n<p>[AFG_gallery id=&#8217;151&#8242;]<\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"fusion-clearfix\"><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cThe Beggar\u2019s Walking Stick\u201d is an experimental audiovisual piece by Binaural\/Nodar\u2019s coordinator Luis Gomes da Costa.
