Art Creations
Binaural / Nodar being an artistic collective, every year develops a series of new creations, namely, but not exclusively, in the context of Nodar Artist Residency Center. The philosophy behind these creations is compatible with that of all other activities, that is, through exploratory techniques and tools, some subtle or forgotten aspects of social reality are questioned. Thus, we can consider this body of creations as an extension of a broader work of connection between art, space and communities.
Sightseeing for the Blind
Sightseeing for the Blind “is a project by Rui Costa based on a sound walk through a city. The project begins with a phase of “sound tourism.” With the help of a tour guide, some routes will be defined that will be traveled and recorded with the aid of a pair of binaural microphones. Along the route impressions, moods, mental associations and decisions will also be recorded to create a score or a series of instructions for a composition or a sound installation. [...]
La Scatola
‘La Scatola’ is a transdisciplinary project by Rui Costa and Manuela Barile that explores the notion of confinement using multiple approaches and works on the border zone between the ‘I’ and the outside world. “La Scatola” (“The Box”, in English) can be thought as a narrative device, that represents a diffuse space between the “inside” and the outside”, between the “I” and the “other”. Locus in Quo
Locus in quo - which means "the place where something happens" - is the general title of a body of works by Manuela Barile based on a particular theme: the sense of places. The project consists of two video installations + a series of photographs and objects (Pesa and Cá), a sound installation/performance (Birdsoundcage) and a concert performance (Oikos). These components function both as interconnected, independent works and, as a single cohesive work. [...]
