Binaural presents: Rinus Van Alebeek (Netherlands) Tickets on sale at the venue and through Ticketline. Rinus Van Alebeek is an electronic musician and performer born in Holland in 1956. He arrived to music relatively late, after publishing two books in his native country under the pseudonym Philip Markus, the first of which, released in 1991, received the prize for the best first novel. His approach to musical improvisation is seen as
a radical one. Very frequently he uses as a source for his work the sounds
recorded in his many trips to the USA, Europe and North African countries.
Rinus Van Alebeek utilizes simple sound capturing resources as microphones
connected to old walkmans and mixes and processes them using a mixer
and an effects pedal, creating powerful lo-fi sound collages
somewhere between noise and pure poetry.

Fronte[i]ras 07 - International Meeting of Transdisciplinary Arts Dates: 17 to 30 September
2007 Open call for artistic projects : from 11 May to 22 June 2007
The central theme for the open call will be the concept of border (“fronteira”) in all its possible variants, a reflection on its multiple interpretations with a focus not only on the physical / geographical borders but also on their dissolution in ideological, cultural, virtual, and ability borders. The artists can freely choose their artistic languages and tools (audio, video, performance, installation, intermedia, etc.). This event will comprise a program of artistic residencies in Galicia and Portugal. Two simultaneous residencies will take place, one in Nodar (a small rural village in Portugal) and another on the outskirts of Pontevedra (Galicia). Several artists from different origins and backgrounds will gather during 10 days on each residency space for the development of artistic projects in close connection with social thinkers who will hold a critique observatory during the same period. As a result of the work produced during the residencies, a final presentation of the developed projects will take place in the form of an itinerant exhibition, starting in Pontevedra and ending in Portugal. A parallel round of conferences and audiovisual artistic talks related to the proposed theme will also take place. Full text of the open call (open or download): Application form (download): Additional information, here.
Arrington de Dionyso in Portugal and Galicia Produced by Binaural, the american musician and improvisor Arrington de Dionyso, will tour Portugal and Galicia in five long-awaited concerts. Arrington de Dionyso, born on January, 4th 1975 in Olympia, Washington, is one of the most ecletic improvisors of the new generation, in a wild mix of throat singing, bass clarinet and jaws harp. During his concerts, Arrington de Dionyso is a musical shaman somewhere in between Albert Ayler, Tuva singing and the Rock and Roll energy of The Stooges. Concerts Schedule: Wed, May 9 - 9.45 p.m. Thu, May 10 - 9 p.m. Fri, May 11 - 11 p.m. Wed, May 16 - 7 p.m. Fri, May 18 - 10 p.m. For the Artist's Press Kit, click here.

Binaural and Associação Cultural de Nodar, the co-organizers of the Nodar Media Arts Residency Program have signed a cooperation protocol with MoKS – Centre for Arts and Social Practice, a media arts residency located in Mooste, Estonia. Both artistic residencies will start in 2008 a yearly exchange program for Portuguese and Estonian resident artists working on media arts. Under this exchange program, on a yearly basis, each residency will select three artistic projects from local artists to be developed on the other party’s guest studio. This exchange program is inspired by the desire to deepen the mutual understanding of artistic practices, to promote the internationalization of artistic projects originated from both countries and to strengthen the relations between both artistic residencies, located on the geographical extremes of Europe but sharing a common approach of cross media artistic practices articulated with a specific social and geographical rural context.
It is now concluded the selection of artistic projects for the 2007 residency program. The schedule of residencies with the corresponding artists is the following: 1st residency module: 10 to 28 April 2007 2nd residency module: 1 to 21 July 2007
