Project: Casa
Category: Sound Installation
Period: September 2006
Event: "Nodar Pushing the Medium #2" Symposium

This sound installation focuses on the space of the house that will be central to the future of the village of Nodar. The house, which for now is rather a non-house, abandoned, by which the few inhabitants of the village pass indifferent to the effect of time on its walls.

8 small piezo-speakers are incrusted in the gaps between the stones of the house, built in 1825, which will be soon renovated to become the future artistic residency in Nodar.

The disposition of the speakers in the wall simulate the form of the river that runs through Nodar, describing a sort of circular path.

The sound will originate from a set of microphones that are scattered through the village and the river, fed to the sound projection system located inside the house, using fm transmitters, and ultimately directed to the small speakers in the walls of the house.

In this way, the house can become not just a place of stones and memory, but also a listening space, a murmuring space and, in that sense, it is inhabited.

A concert is held at one particular night during the symposium, where the different recordings are mixed and processed in an improvised environment, using a custom-built program written in Max/Msp.
