Project: Sound
action with shepherd, goats, dog, musicians and audience
Nodar's landscape is scattered by flocks of sheeps and goats that play an important role in the local rural economy. For instance, the Montemuro mountains situated in front of Nodar have from centuries back witnessed the ritual of transhumance, huge flocks of goats being brought by their shepherds from the surrounding valleys during the summer in order to benefict from colder weather and greener pastures. With this context in mind, Nilo Gallego has started a residency at Nogs in March 2006 in order to develop his project "Sound action with shepherd, goats, dog, musicians and audience". Nilo has already been involved in another project with sheeps ("Felipe comes back home with the sheep sounding"), that took place back in 1999 at Bercianos del Real Camino, León, Spain. During the residency, Nilo interviews local interesting residents (such as storytellers, musicians and shepherds), and follows the interviewed shepherds during their daily routines, both out in the fields and at the paddocks, in order to set the scenario for the final sound action event, to be presented during a new residency to happen in July 2007. This event will combine pure observation of the actors (goats, shepherds and dogs) with an open intervention of several musicians and artists, both spanish musicians and performers, Nilo included, and local traditional musicians ("tocadores"). A final documentary of both the preparation and the final event will be made. Project's weblog
