Manuela Barile | Italy

Manuela Barile is a vocal researcher and an interdisciplinary performer. She explores the voice in all its possible musical and spoken expressions, employing Western and Oriental vocal techniques, as well as those of her invention, without recourse to any electronic manipulations.

Presently her artistic research is based on a project-oriented work that combines the vocal sounds with different media (video, photography, installations, performance, drawing, writing). During her artistic career she has performed with many musicians and artists.

Project: Studies on the nest and grape
Category: Multidisciplinary Perofrmance, Video
Period: July 2006
Event: Art Residency

In the context of an art residency held on the summer of 2006, I started a series of studies on the dialectics "static / dynamic" moved by an intimate reflection on the nest and the grape symbology. I used local organic materials collected on a spontaneous manner and later subjected to a process of slight translocation.

The human body, such as my hand, appears in the process as a mediator, dominator and accelerator between the two poles, static and dynamic. At the same time, the hand is felt like a life generator, the mother protector of her nest.

This project will be continued on a new residency during 2007, in which I expect to concretize some of the sketches made before and develop a series of video installations enveloped by an associated performance.
