Project: Balanced Structures for Composition
One of the aspects of creative process on which I've been focusing part of my interests for these last years has to deal with the concept of structure. Making music is directly related to "compose", as is to put together various elements on a timeline to obtain a meaningful development. More in general, aside from different styles or genres (in this case can be a musical score or a live process, but also an installation, a video, or even a conceptual work), the act of working on a piece implicate a conception (intention?) of balance made of structural elements that is mostly identifiable. In Nodar I worked with a few samples recorded "in loco" and in line with the enviroment of Pushing The Medium. While discussing and confrontating with other participants on different approaches of shaping a structure, I used the same source material to accomplish different sound pieces.
Antonio's comments on the symposium: What to say about the Nodar experience? Great place, very kind people and really good organization. In other words you did a great job! What I really enjoyed in Nodar (and in Pushing the Medium in general) was the opportunity to share and collaborate with other artists, to get in touch with new practices, to feel the "buzz around" - and there's really a lot around. Maybe something could be said about site-specific actions. I think that every artist should be free to follow his personal path and development process. The interaction with the place should be natural and implicit. (…) I mean the problem was probably to write a project proposal before seeing the place and feeling the vibration there. There are artists used to that, but I wouldn't filter out those who don't. Nodar is now partner with Topolò and Mooste andmany other projects are now running to link small villages in Europe. This is a clear trend, therefore I understand the need of interacting with the place and the people, but why should this directly involve the creative process? Interactions with other artists were quite good. (…) I organized the 3rd edition of the symposium in Topolò right after the Nodar event (and) I hope there will be another Pushing the Medium next because (...) it's very fruitful.
